University of Rochester

Departing before 10 am, all the Hercules students, driven by Mr. Crossley, have gone to University of Rochester to see the campus. Our tour guides have been on hand to greet us, presenting us a drawstring backpack along with a t-shirt emblazoned with their mascot, a yellow jacket. What a nice way to attract prospective students!

Among many other aspects, this institution, which is smaller compared with Cornell University, grasps my attention with its Writing Fellows program. Having a wealth of resources available have always been an important facet for me. Another neat factor to the school is its Rochester Curriculum. Since the school believes that students should only take courses in whatever subjects of interest to them, they do not have a standard set of required classes for students to take, hence the flexibility of this university.

If students cannot find a club that meets their expectations or appeals to their leisure life, they can always write up an amendment, as long as they have five other people who are willing to join the group.

The impression of this school I left with is its amazing campus life, but most importantly, its rigor in the classroom and its well-respected school faculty.

Now, my group and I are wrapping up the slides for our Powerpoint presentation. Tomorrow, we will put the final touch to it.

  1. Thanks Stacy,

I can always count on you to get the pictures posted. However, if you have pictures with our group in them it would be nice to see those shots. We can always go to the Web site and see pictures of the buildings. If you have any with the team in them, post them.

Your post is solid, but I want to read if you feel more inclined to inquire about this world class institution. Like Ramiah, did it make you feel differently about being open to attending this school that does not have a national following, or like Julia who definitely saw this as a possible "fit". Her post dripped with salivating statements about the school and its Writing Program. I could tell from reading her comments that she was "pleasantly surprised" and that her and her family were going to have lively discussions around the dinner table about possible colleges.

Maybe Rochester is nice, but that you are not sold. It appears that Cornell has pleased you and that Cornell is a school that is on your list. I will be interested in hearing how you feel about the experience when you return home to Hercules. I will also be waiting to hear Ms. Kim's review after you meet with her upon your return.

You still have a lot of exploring to do during your final two weeks and I hope that you will signal to us what schools you feel are emerging for Stacy Chan.

I like your energy and I am glad that you are working your way through the complex college exploration process.

    Take care.

  2. Mr. Ramsey,

The group picture with the tour guide was not on my camera. It was on Julia's and Louisa's, I believe.

  3. Stacy,

Sometimes Mr. Ramsey can be misinterpreted. I'm sure that what he meant to write was: If you have any with the team in them, post them, TOO.

We love ALL of the photos, Stacy, so keep them coming. From someone who has shot a photo or two in my day, I can advise you that you can never shoot too many photos and posting lots of photos is a good thing so keep them coming. And if you want to add a word or two between the photos, that's okay, too.

Sounds like your time in Rochester was time well spent. And it never hurts to come away with some freebies.
