I must admit I was rather nervous while walking into class this morning. I did not know exactly what to expect on our preliminary exam. I did, however, know that I had done all I could to prepare. I was so relieved when I received the test. Of the ten quote from which we had to chose five, there was only one of which I was not sure of the source. I was definitely pleased when I handed in my exam.
After the test we had a quick break. I was glad to see Mrs. Kronenberg again, I did not know that we would be doing so. We had a nice chat, and I will defiantly be applying to Cornell this fall. Not because of our conversation, but rather because I know that I have found a good fit. I do not mind being in a rural setting without a shopping mall; nor do I mind the walking. I love my professor, my TA, and my class. I am so grateful to have this opportunity!
Following our short break, we had a double lecture on feminism. It was very interesting. I cannot wait to dive head first into this topic; not that I did not dive head first into the last. The history behind all of the stuff we are learning is so intriguing.
When lecture ended we were free for the afternoon. We decided to check out the Harry Potter rooms in Uris Library. I know that I visited the library yesterday (with my roommate) but it was still very captivating. I even took a picture on my phone and set it as my new wallpaper.
In the midst of our John Stuart Mill reading, Julia, Justine, and I took a break to make T-Shirts. This was an event held on the third floor of the dorm. It was really fun decorating shirts with Sharpies and clothing paint.
Now I have to finish up the reading for the night, and hit the hay. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.

Thanks Ramiah, I can now also hit the Hay! It has been a long day for me, but I was very pleased that everyone nailed the exam. It is a nice feeling knowing that you are familiar with nine of the ten quotes and that you only have to know five. I am glad that all of your preparation made a difference.
ReplyDeleteNow you are in the home stretch and you can dig deep into what I believe is interesting and exciting topics on race, gender and most important class. Remember what I mentioned in our review that Karl Marx will be a large part of this class. Look at my prophetic statements from my previous emails where I said that John Locke would be a big part of Freedom and Justice. Was I right?
Cornell, oh yes, Cornell! You are wise to have this on your list of colleges for the fall. This is a fabulous University that provides all of the needed resources to succeed. Too many of our students miss out on this great university just because it is not in an urban setting. So what! It has all that is needed for a first class education. Moreover, all of you are still teenagers and will not have the resources to truly enjoy the bright lights of the Big City.
I went to UCLA and was dead broke. I never had a dime or a car to ride in. I spent most of my time on campus with the other broke students. I went to Law School in San Francisco at Hastings and had even less money. It was not until I began my own law practice that I really had a large stack of cash in my pocket to enjoy. Enough of me. I am glad that you see all that Cornell has to offer and I am glad that you have expanded your choices beyond Harvard and Stanford.
However, any information on how things are going with your roommate would be appreciated. Howe does she like Cornell? Is she enjoying her class? How has she handled the stress of being in the program? Is she curious about the Ivy League Connection? How did she come to attend the program and did she have to go through a rigorous selection process?
Take us "Inside the Walls" and let us know where people at Mary Donlon are going. I also hope that you enjoy the Fireworks show tomorrow. Each of you have worked hard and now is the time to relax and enjoy the Holiday Celebration.
I do hope that you will take the Offical Campus tour tomorrow afternoon. They have one at 3:00 PM and it would be good for you to visit the Admissions Office and find out who does the admissions interviews for Northern California. Please post and let us know so that we can share what we are doing with the Ivy League Connection with that person. Remember,we want to grow the program and the only way that we can do this is if you provide us much needed information.
Now is the time to ramain proactive and gain as much information on Cornell as possible. I would also visit the Minority Recruitment and Outreach department and find out what they are doing about Minority participation at Cornell. These are all valuable tools and you need to make sure that you have relevant information that will assist you when you apply to Cornell.
Remember you need to sit down and email your College Consultant Sue Kim so that she can advise you on what else you need to do while you are on campus. She may have some insightful tips that you can take advantage of while you are there on campus.
Ramiah, I really enjoy your writing and appreciate your candor. I am looking forward to the first Ivy League Connection dance that you and Julia will put together later this year.

ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you on this important day of mid-term exams. The time log on your blog says 2:28 PM but I kept checking the site until nearly 10:00 PM our time (1:00 AM your time) and still nothing. I think someone’s messing with us. I’m thinking that the time stamp we’re seeing is when you first started the draft. I’ve been staring at the log all day and half the night waiting for that ‘draft’ to turn into a blog that you’ve sent.
I even emailed Mr. Ramsey with my concerns about you. We had heard from everyone else and it wasn’t like you not to blog. My worry wasn’t with the blog but I was worried about you.
Between Justine’s Julia’s and now your blogs about your exams it just pleases me to no end. All of the preparations you’ve done over the past months is now paying off. I know just how good it can feel walking into a class KNOWING you’re prepared.
I just hope that your TA’s and Professor Kramnick see things the same way you all do.
To say we’re all proud of wouldn’t come close to being accurate, Ramiah. It’s not even the tip of the iceberg.
Now you have a nice holiday weekend coming up where you can do a little bit of relaxing while revisiting some of your old friends from long ago. Rehashing the reading you’ve already completed shouldn’t be all that difficult for you now.
